A Dash Away From Destiny
by
Christy Roy

A tossed coin;
Our fate hangs in the balance.
Tumbling end over end,
Arcing up and then down
To predict our future.
Do we really want to know?
Take my hand;
Let's run away before it lands.
A faint metallic ching and
The answer to a question
Lies silently on the pavement.
But we have already gone,
Deciding that "for now"
Is all that really matters.

Author's Note: Fate or destiny (or the lack thereof) seems to crop up many times in my work of the past few years, and this is the earliest example of that I could find so far.
